How does dermaplaning work?
This non-invasive procedure uses a surgical scalpel, specifically designed for dermaplaning, to carefully remove the top layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair from the skin. Vellus hair (also known as peach fuzz) only gets to be about .03mm in thickness and grows only 1-2mm in length. The removal of vellus hair and dead skin reveals a new, fresh layer of “baby skin” that more readily absorbs skincare products, resulting in a smoother and brighter complexion.
What can I expect during my procedure?
As with all procedures at The Derm Lab Rx, you’ll start with an in-depth consultation to determine if dermaplaning is right for you. Dermaplaning itself is a simple and short procedure (about 15 minutes from start to finish), but is often combined with other treatments. An enzymatic solution is massaged onto the skin to ensure all dead skin cells are sloughed off, followed by soothing finishing products.
Is there any downtime with this treatment?
There is little-to-no downtime with dermaplaning, which depends on your skin’s sensitivity. Patients may experience redness or tenderness post-procedure, which should resolve itself naturally. Ensure that you’re staying out of the sun and away from excessive steam and heat while your skin is healing itself. It’s important to stay extra protected with an SPF on 50+ during this time.
